About Us

MRS. SPEAKS

Mrs. Speaks teaches Language Arts on the Sharks Team and is the Team Leader. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and has taught for twelve years, ten of which have been at DRMS. She was named a Class of 2013 Kenan Fellow in NC State’s Kenan Fellows Program for Curriculum and Leadership Development. She will be completing her Fellowship this year.  She works to incorporate technology in her lessons with her students. She earned her B.A. in Psychology and her Masters in Education both from The University of South Carolina. She and her husband Corey have a six-year-old son, Nathaniel, and a four-year-old son, Aidan. She loves Starbucks and seafood. Go Gamecocks! =)

 

MS. DOOLEY

Nancy Dooley teaches math and Pre-Algebra on the Sharks Team.  Ms. Dooley is a veteran teacher, with 29 years of experience, ten at Durant.  She was the 2006-2007 DRMS Teacher of the Year. She has taught multiple subjects in kindergarten through college. Middle schoolers are her favorite students to teach. Ms. Dooley received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky, and her Masters Degree from West Virginia University. She enjoys spending time at the ocean and the mountains, visiting with her two adult sons, quilting and sewing, and relaxing with a cup of tea in her garden.

 

DR. LAND

Dr. Land teaches Social Studies on the Sharks Team. Jeff Land graduated from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA in 1977 with a degree in English and American literature. He soon left for Hollywood where he worked on several short films and directed a documentary about poet Wanda Coleman. He began teaching in LA in 1980, completing a MA in Education at Cal State LA which focused on remedial reading techniques in Social Studies. In 1987 Jeff moved to Oregon, going to graduate school in Media Studies at the University of Oregon and working on environmental issues in the northwest. He completed his PhD  in 1994, writing a book on the origins of listener sponsored radio. (Active Radio is available used on Amazon for 35 cents!) His only child Maya was born in 1990. He moved to North Carolina for romantic reasons, and stayed to teach at Durant, where he has been a Social Studies teacher since 1999. He received his National Board certification in 2010. When not teaching, he travels, gardens, and works in a ceramics studio.

 

MRS. MOLLOY

Mrs. Molloy teaches Science on the Sharks Team. She started her teaching career at Durant in 2010. Before teaching, she earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Texas and a M.S. in Occupational Psychology from the University of Sheffield in England.  Mrs. Molloy began her science career working at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Neurology Department.  She tested hundreds of brain injured patients for diagnostic and research purposes.  Next, Mrs. Molloy worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Sheffield.  Her primary research emphasis involved the relationship between goal setting, training, and performance.  Mrs. Molloy loves science, research, and academia!  Her goal is to inspire her students to achieve their full potential and to consider a career in science.  The most adventurous thing Mrs. Molloy has done (so far) was to backpack around Turkey one summer.
