7th Grade Language Arts Meeting on 04/18/2013

Quarter SMART Goal: 85% of our kids will demonstrate mastery on CFA’s

Minutes: -Erica is doing an iPad app discovery lesson with her kids. She is having them explore Eduacations, Auidoboo,Glogster, Mindmaster, Zoodle Comics, Subtext, Idea Sketch and determine which app they could use for a project on their dystopian novel. They will fill in a Google Form for them to fill in.
-Toontastic allows students to create a comic based on plot development
-Emily share Holocaust resources that she is using for the “Singled Out” unit.

7th Grade Language Arts Meeting on 03/07/2013

Quarter SMART Goal: 85% of our kids will demonstrate mastery on CFA’s

Minutes: Larissa shared her marriage of compound sentences where she paired boys and girls with numbered papers so they could better understand dependent and independent clauses.

Robin shared NY Times common core articles, and she feels that her kids finally nailed the coding and annotating. We spoke about the Social Studies benchmark, and how it is really important that students use coding and annotating in all classes.

Emily shared the “Say You Want a Revolution?” project and discussed project options.

We discussed the writing portfolio, and how we are giving them the dates and topics for each requirement. Students will simply write a sentence or two about what they learned.

7th Grade Language Arts Meeting on 02/21/2013

Participants: Erica Speaks, Whitney Haase, Larisa Gilmore, Robin Talbot

Quarter SMART Goal: 85% of our kids will demonstrate mastery on CFA’s

Minutes: We discussed the use of technology in the classroom with the main focus on Edmodo.Erica is FLIPPING the session for us.
iPads, Voiicethread, and Smartboard CLickers. We discussed the differences between LA clickers and regular. Some teachers are using Edmodo as an enrichment only. The monitoring of Edmodo can be a challenge.
Larissa would like to offer creative writing opportunities for enrichment and pure enjoyment for those students who are interested. This would be across tracks and writing would be submitted.
Robin discussed the Double-Entry Journal as a useful literacy strategy while reading informational text.
Erica showed us some linked games for capitilization and grammar she has found very useful.
Animoto Book Trailer is used for an alternate book report project.
We spent the rest of the time desigining and sharing the Revolution Unit.

7th Grade Language Arts Meeting on 02/14/2013

Participants: Erica Speaks, Larisa Gilmore (Emily Blake- Tracked Out and Robin Talbot- Sick)

Quarter SMART Goal: 80% of our students will demonstrate mastery on the benchmark assessments.

Minutes: We spent the majority of our time discussing and working on the lesson plan requirement for the final day of Common Core Certification.

In addition, we shared lesson plan ideas for the Quest for Perfection unit.

Quarter SMART Goal: 80% of our students will demonstrate mastery on the benchmark assessments.

Minutes: Emily broought “Story of AN Hour” to teach irony and Erica shared an irony powerpoint. We reviewed the the irony concepts taught in “The Gift of the Magi” and discussed how to move forward. We discussed the Alanis Morrissette lyrics. We also discussed leadership, which we’d both attended, and the schedules.
