YOU belong at your library! National Library Week runs April 8 – April 14 and the DRMS Media Center is celebrating BIG! Students can participate in a variety of special events, including a Count the Dolphin Statues contest and student Book Swap. There are dolphin statues in and on top of bookshelves around the media center. Count how many there are and submit your guess. There will be a winner from each track! The book swap is open all this week. If you’ve already brought in books for the swap, then be sure to spend your green Book Bucks by Friday. There are a lot of great titles to spend your bucks on!
The YOU Belong at your Library bookmark contest was a huge hit! 81 students submitted a bookmark design. A winner and three runners-up were chosen and copies of their designs can be found at the library check-out desk.
It wouldn’t be National Library Week without special book displays throughout the media center. A group of 8th grade students placed every book on display, so there are some really great, popular titles to choose from. You’ll also find student passport photos and book recommendations throughout the media center. Is one of your friends featured? Check out a great new title or series that they’ve recommended.
You can’t walk down the media center hallway without noticing the GIANT book! It contains student responses to the question, ‘why do YOU belong at your library?’ Take a look at what DRMS students are saying about their media center!
This has been a fantastic week celebrating reading and wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous planning and help of the 8th grade National Library Week planning committee. Thank you Madisen, Brice, Nick, Jenae, Veronica, Kira, Cassidy, Mathew, and Henry for your hard work and dedication.
