Track 1 Awards Ceremony Tickets

Tickets to the Track 1 Awards Ceremony are being distributed today (Tuesday) to the students.  If your child is an Honors/High Honors student those tickets were mailed out last week and you should have received them.  If you have not received tickets in the mail please contact the school so we can get those to you.  The students who are not receiving recognition for Honors/High Honors will be bringing their tickets home with them today.  If you have any additional questions please be sure to let us know.  We look forward to celebrating the successes of the students at this ceremony and will take a moment to reflect on their years at DRMS and wish them all the best as they head off to high school.

All 8th graders and any student receiving an award will receive two tickets each for guests to attend. Guests MUST have these tickets in order to attend.  Tickets will be collected at the door.  We apologize for any inconvenience but we must adhere to the fire code restrictions.   *No ticket required for children 5 yrs. and younger.

All Honors & High Honors students will receive an invitation in the mail with the two tickets included as well as the dress code.  These will be mailed the week of May 6.

All 8th graders will receive an invitation with their two tickets as well as the dress code.  These will be distributed in homeroom during the week of May 6.  Be sure to ask your child for this.

If your son or daughter will be receiving an award, you will be contacted by their teacher prior to the program but remember that these awards are a surprise to the student.

All 8th graders and honor/high honor students must wear proper attire for the program.  This will be discussed with students as well as included with the invitations to parents.

We look forward to celebrating our students from Track 1 on May 23!  Any questions should be directed to Tracey Latham, 919-518-0280 or tlatham@wcpss.net .

Spiritwear Orders

Here is a message from the PTA:
Dear Parents,
We are sharing with you an opportunity to purchase spiritwear before the end of the school year.  Our spiritwear design and options will remain the same for the 2013-2014 school year, so take advantage of this opportunity to buy your spiritwear before the start of the new school year.

An order form is attached and the completed order form and payment (check, cash, or MO), can be returned to your Homeroom teacher and orders will be filled and returned to your student via their Homeroom teacher, usually within 3-5 school days.

We will also be selling spiritwear at the upcoming 6th grade orientation (for incoming 6th graders) and the Open Houses offered at the begining of the school year in July/August, but we want to make this opportunity available to you now.  Some colors and sizes are limited/sold out, so get your order in soon.

If you have any questions, please email me at klundholm@nc.rr.com.  Please direct questions about your spiritwear order to me as opposed to your homeroom teacher.

Thank you and have a great end to the school year.

Kathy Lundholm
Spiritwear Coordinator

See Mr.Dunton if you need an order form.  He has copies in his room!

Progress Reports

Progress reports went home with the students on Friday.  We ask that the cover sheet be signed and returned to the homeroom teachers by Wednesday May 1st.  If you have any questions or concerns about grades please be sure to check with the students prior to contacting the teachers.  We went over all their grades with them and tried to send home the most accurate grades as of today.  If you have any additional questions please contact the teachers and we will be glad to answer them.  Enjoy your weekend!

End of year info

There have been some questions about end of the year festivities.   Here is what we can give you so far.

Track 1 Awards Ceremony: Thursday May 23rd 9:30am in the Gym
This is the ceremony where we will recognize each 8th Grader for their successful completion of the 8th Grade and present our awards for Student of the Year, Individual Subject Awards, SPLASH Award and our Extra Effort Award.

On Friday May 31st is the 8th Grade Picnic.  This is held at school and there was information sent home about it.  This date is also the day of the 8th Grade Dance from 7:00-9:30pm.  It is also the last day of school for Track 1.

There will be more information coming home about the awards ceremony as we get closer so be on the look out for that.  If you have any questions please let us know.  Thanks again for your continued support throughout this year.

Field Trip Reminders

This is a reminder that the final payment for our Field Trip is due on April 19th.  If you are joining us as a chaperone please make sure that you have been cleared by Wake County, you need the highest clearance possible since it is an overnight trip.  If you have not signed up yet you can do that at any WCPSS school on Mondays when the system is open.

We will be having the students create their rooming preference lists in the next week or so.  The process will go like this.  I will hand out the rooming request sheets to the students in home room on a specified day.  The students will have until 11:30 (after lunch) to give me one sheet for their requested room (4 students).  I will make sure that all 4 roommates agree to this and it is a room that we can trust to be responsible tenants at the hotel without adult supervision in the room, and then send a copy home to each parent to have it signed off on.  Once I receive a signed form from all 4 roommates that room is locked in and there will be no changes.

Field Trip, HS Registration, and other stuff

Field Trip:
Reminder that payment #2 ($75) is due by Friday March 1st.  If you cannot make this payment please inform Mr.Dunton.  You can pay online even while we are tracked out.   The remaining balance is due by April 19th.  We will be sending home information about room assignments and groups for the field trip when we Track In so be on the lookout for that.

High School Registration:
Students and parents are reminded about HS registration.  Your registration info is due to Mrs.Deen by Tuesday March 26th.  If you are in need of assistance with registration you have to your paper to Mrs.Deen by Friday March 22nd.  If there are any questions they need to be to Mrs.Deen by tomorrow as she will not be able to check email over track out.

Other Stuff:
When we return from Track Out we have about a month of school until we will be in full testing mode.  Students will be taking an MSL (Measure of Student Learning) in all 4 of their classes and an EOC in Algebra (if they take Algebra).  Please understand that these exams are a measure of the student’s academic progress for the year and may be used in determining placements in High School classes.  With that being said, it is important for all students to do their very best on these exams.  We are confident in the students abilities and their progress throughout this year and hope that it is reflected by their scores.  If you have any questions or concerns about these exams or anything else concerning academic progress please let us know.

We will be hosting an honor roll lunch for the students who made the A or A/B Honor Roll on Friday March 29th.  If you are interested in helping us with this please let us know.  We will send home information about this when we return.

It is hard to believe that we are down to the final 10 weeks of the school year, it seems like just yesterday we had our first day of school and a group of former 7th Graders enter our hall.  Now they are soon to be Freshman and seem eager to start this new journey.  Let’s make sure they finish this year strong and have good habits as they enter into High School. We wish everyone a safe and restful Track Out.
