Durant Dolphin Football
As we begin a new school year, we are making preparations for the up-coming football season. While we continue to be a strong program on the field (6 time conference or divisional champions since 1999), we place the highest priority on education and appropriate behavior. Try-outs will begin Monday, August 27th @ 3:25 with an organizational meeting in the auditorium. Dress to go outside. First cuts will be on Wednesday, August 29th and final cuts will be on Wednesday, September 5th.
Each prospective player must turn in a current physical (a physical is valid for 365 days), proof of insurance, and 2011-12 final report card(only students new to Durant Middle this year) to participate. Plan your physical appointments well in advance of try-outs. A player must attend try-outs to make the team. Unexcused absences from try-outs will result in the player being cut! Discuss any conflict with coaches in advance to ensure your opportunity to make the team. Any plans for extended absences (4 or more) at any time during the season should be brought to the coaches’ attention before August 27th.
Player eligibility will be checked prior to try-outs, therefore it is imperative that a player has signed up and turned in all of his paperwork by Friday, August 24th. There will be announced meetings for prospective players to attend and officially sign-up. To be eligible, a player must have passed 5 subjects and had fewer than 15 absences during the previous semester. 3 of the 5 subjects must be core classes and 2 of those must be Math and Language Arts. Also, the player cannot be 15 years of age on or before August 31st, 2011.
We will keep 35-38 players and the competition will be fierce to make the team. It is highly recommended that you are conditioning now and will come to try-outs in good shape. Practices will run Monday through Friday from 3:30 until 5:30. The activity bus will run Monday thru Thursday. The departure time will be announced later. Players are responsible for all rides and for being at practice and games during track-out. Car-poolers should be picked up no later than 5:45 in the bus parking lot.
Due to the growing number of occurrences, we are asking that you do not double participate in sports outside of school during football season. We cannot allow players to leave early or miss practice or games due to another sport. Football will command most of your extra time and attention. Please remember the deadlines previously listed and the important dates and activities in the following pages. We look forward to seeing you in August.
